BUT LET US ALL TAKE SOLACE IN THE FACT THAT LOKI AND VERITY SEEM TO BE OKAY.

Or at least not not-okay. Starting to be okay.

I really need them to be okay, guys.

You are correct. Only those at the site of the spell were affected by the inversion. Although, for the reversal of the spell they apparently didn’t need to be present, BUT Loki is still somewhat affected. He can’t lie, so there is some sort of lingering effect.

Wait, he still can’t lie?

Holy shit. The poor kid is doomed.

Nope, he can’t….it’s gonna be rough.

And let’s not forget that in #5 the All Mother states that she only wanted to disprove Old Loki by saving Lorelei and Sigurd from their “final, awful, tragedy”(Odin’s punishment) by preventing them from meeting that day. This is what Old Loki foretold.

It’s now extra fucked up, because Loki causes their meeting and thusly their punishment. Now whether or not these events could have been avoided is like a whole other thing. Obviously Old Loki is manipulating all of these events. He told the All Mother this would happen which caused her to get Loki to bring in Lorelei(he didn’t) and then Sigurd. If he brought in Lorelei they might never have asked for Sigurd at all. So…Old Loki is playing this whole thing and I just went insane with rambling! I don’t even know if this makes sense!

See, it’s extra fucked up because even Old Loki doesn’t know how this is going to turn out anymore. He’s not even just trying to make sure “his” future comes to pass, he’s trying to make it worse. Which occasionally blows up in his face. Both of them are off the beaten path and traveling without a map.

And I think that it’s in part he can’t help but meddle, even if it would make his entire future come crumbling down, because he is once again the Loki Who Burns. He’s locked into his role, the same old story he used to be. He is Loki, and Loki messes with shit. And Loki is his own worst enemy. I can at least hope that that goes both ways.

Some insane rambling is frankly called for here. This is all so twisted and metaphysical and that’s why I love it.

(And maybe he can execute another rescue for Lorelei and Sigurd. Odin would understand that they’re his buds and he needs to look out for them.)

And if the Axis inversion is over, does that mean Odin would give them a lighter punishment or realize they were affected by the inversion and reconsider their case?

Don’t kill them off!  We’re just starting to know (and ship) them!

I don’t think they were affected by the Inversion, though. I mean, what I know of the precise going’s-on of Axis, I know from tumblr, but I thought it only affected those who were at the site of the spell – in this case, Thor, Amora, and Loki (along with every other hero and villain who had arrived on site to try and stop Red Skull.) Lorelei and Sigurd weren’t involved. Lorelei was just righteously pissed off at how Amora was treating her and decided to unwind with a robbery, and Sigurd is a dope in love and so he went along with her. I think what they’re actually being punished for is disobeying the word of the All-Mother (not returning to Asgardia when summoned, and breaking out when imprisoned). At least, specifically. Lorelei probably has a couple hundred other petty misdemeanors under her belt, much like Loki.

(Admittedly, even if they were affected, I don’t think he’d reconsider their case. Odin has a soft spot for his family, but he is still Lawful Neutral incarnate.)

Now, I do think (or hope) that we can take some hope from Odin’s pronouncement being “I will” rather than “I have”. So they might not have had their hearts buried under dead trees on the Isle of Silence yet, by the time a rescue is arranged. And even if they have, I don’t think that means “death”. They’re gods, they don’t work on the same logic as we do, and Odin clearly meant for this to be a “fate worse than death” for these two lovebirds.

And I think a rescue will be arranged. They’re not quite established characters on the level that Verity is yet, but they’ve been around nearly as long.

AND I JUST FUCKING REALIZED.

During the events of Agent of Asgard #9? Thor had both arms.

We are now into metal arm territory.

Which means that enough time passes between #9 and #10 for Thor to get fished out of the ocean, get a new arm, and (possibly) go confront New Thor over having Mjolnir.

(Of course, enough time passes between THOR #1 and THOR #4 for him to have gotten fished out of the ocean and gotten a new arm. Which means that we’ve spent kind of a while with most of the Avengers trapped in ice.

I don’t even know, man. But it’s nice to have a proper timeline reference.)

I actually have a suspicion that Odin did what he did with the INTENT of Loki rescuing them. Odin has always been pretty big on making his sons prove themselves worthy.

True. He never gives them a damn thing except a chance…but I think the only thing Loki could do at this point to prove to Odin that he’s even got a chance at growing is to pull off a rescue.

He sure as hell won’t help Loki do that…but if Loki should happen to put his friends right while Odin’s busy with other matters, I don’t think he’d make too much of a big thing about it. He did his job in passing judgement, Loki can do his job after that.

(Plus, I note that in Issue #9, he said “I will”, not “I have” with regards to the fate of their hearts. I hope that’s telling, at least.)

In my opinion, this scene is going to really, really depend on just why Thor has shown up at Loki’s door looking ready to rip his head off.

We know…or at least, we think we know…that the Conversation we’ve all been dreading will be happening this issue.

Is it going to come about because Thor learned about Kid Loki from elsewhere? Or is Agent Loki going to snap under the stress and confess?

If it’s the first option, I could understand. If it’s Thor finding out that he’s been lied to for years, that the boy he brought back in the hopes of giving his brother a second chance was worse than killed by little more than a ghost and he never saw it or knew or suspected…yeah, okay. I’d be pissed off, too.

If Agent Loki confesses and Thor didn’t know, however…that’s another story. And if that’s the case and he doesn’t at least stop and listen to Verity’s side of the story, I am going to be pissed.

The events of this preview had better be because Thor learned about the Crime that Could Not Be Forgiven beforehand and that’s why he’s showed up at Loki’s apartment looking downright murderous.

Because if it’s still about the fact that Loki was able to wield Mjolnir just long enough to beat some sense into him, I’m gonna be spending most of THOR #4 cheering for New Thor to kick his ass.

Here’s what I want to know.

Here’s what I really want to know. And if someone who’s actually reading Axis can let me know, that would be wonderful.

Is Thor lying?

Were there others who didn’t remember their actions under the Inversion spell? Was it determined randomly? Do only the “villains” remember?

Or is he now so unworthy that he’s lying to his brother because he can’t stand the fact that Loki was, for a grand total of five minutes, more “worthy” than him?

(Don’t you even accuse me of hating on Thor. He is my favorite. Which is why I am calling all the shenanigans on that ending.)
